On behalf of Governor Rick Snyder, State Representative Wayne Schmidt, and State Senator Howard Walker, Rep. Schmidt will present a centennial tribute at the Traverse City Light and Power (TCL&P) board meeting on September 25, 2012, honoring TCL&P’s 100 years of powering the community. The tribute and board meeting will take place in the Commission Chambers at the Governmental Center beginning at 5:15 p.m.
TCL&P dates back to September 5, 1912, when the City of Traverse City purchased sixty acres at the Keystone settlement and the property flowage rights seven miles upstream to Brown Bridge Dam and pond from Queen City Light and Power Company. The transaction cost $150,000.
The centennial tribute will conclude a year’s worth of celebration which started in late 2011 with the donation of new LED holiday lights for the main tree in downtown Traverse City, and events throughout the past year like the “Power of Art” contest at all local schools and the Friday Night Live celebration.
