Olney Joins L&P as Operations Manager

(Traverse City, Michigan) — Ed Rice, executive director of Traverse City Light & Power(L&P), announced that Thomas Olney has joined L&P as the new operations manager, replacing the previous manager. According to Rice, Olney’s duties will include supervising the linemen, meter readers and twenty-four hour dispatch center, managing the operation of the natural gas combustion turbine in Kalkaska and implementing the L&P distribution system reconstruction project.

Olney has over 35 years of leadership experience in electric utility transmission and distribution engineering and operations activities. He comes to L&P from Consumers Energy Company (Consumers) based in Jackson, Michigan where he has over 30 years of experience. He most recently held a significant leadership position for Consumers as the electric field manager at the Grand Rapids headquarters where he was responsible for providing safe and reliable electric service to over 100,000 customers in that area.

Olney had previously been a design fleet engineer for Florida Power & Light where he was responsible for designing overhead and underground distribution projects.

Olney holds a degree in electrical engineering from Michigan State University and is a registered professional engineer.

“I am confident that Tom will be a very capable electric operations manager with excellent leadership skills,” said Rice. “We are pleased to have him join the L&P team.”

Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) is a community-owned, community focused municipal utility that offers reliable energy at competitive rates in the region to over 11,000 customers in Traverse City, and parts of Blair, East Bay, Elmwood, Garfield, Peninsula and Paradise townships.
