L&P Announces the “Power of Art” Video and 2-D Contest
(Traverse City, Michigan) —Traverse City Light & Power (L&P) has been providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity to Traverse City residents, businesses and industries for a remarkable 100 years - powering the community with energy and commitment. As part of the celebration of 100 years of service, TCL&P is inviting the community to take part in the “Power of Art” contest.
The goal of the contest is to, through art, engage students and the community in a way that will enhance their interest and understanding of the role that efficient, safe, reliable and affordable electricity plays in the prosperity of this community. The contest, which focuses on energy efficiency, has two categories: video and two dimensional (2-D).
The video category invites community members to produce an original video, up to five minutes in length, which shows the importance of energy efficiency in the community. The videos will be judged in two categories: student and community member. The winning submissions in each category will receive a $500 Downtown Traverse City gift certificate along with an engraved medal, accolades at the awards ceremony and a prominent place in TCL&P communications.
The 2-D category challenges area students, grades 6-12, to brainstorm and create a work of art that displays the importance of energy efficiency in the community. One $500 sponsorship will be awarded to each grade level. The award winning student will earn a $400 class sponsorship to support supplies and curriculum. The student will personally receive an engraved medal, accolades at the awards ceremony and a prominent place in TCL&P communications. The teachers of the award winning students will be honored and thanked for their contribution with a $100 Downtown Traverse City gift certificate.
“Light & Power hopes to engage the community in a new way through the ‘Power of Art’ contest,” said Ed Rice, L&P executive director. “We hope students and community members will learn about the important role energy efficiency plays in the success of the Traverse City area through the art they create.”
Winners of the video and 2-D categories will be announced at the awards ceremony and group exhibition held at the City Opera House on April 3, 2012. There will be an open house to view the submissions from 5:30-6:30 p.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The winning video will be accessible at www.tclp.org and the 2-D will remain on display at the City Opera House throughout the month allowing the community every chance to celebrate the talent and art of our community members.
