Tim Arends Hired as Controller for L&P

(Traverse City, Michigan) —Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) has hired Tim Arends to fill its newly created position of Controller for the municipal utility. Arends has been deputy treasurer of the City of Traverse City since 1990. He will make the transition to L&P over the next several months as he continues to support the City treasurer’s department to ensure their business continuity.

“We are extremely pleased that Tim is joining Light and Power,” said Ed Rice, Interim Executive Director of L&P. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this new position.”

According to Rice, the Controller position was created in a recent restructuring of the utility’s organizational chart that replaced a previous position with financial/ accounting duties.

Arends was one of six area residents named “Community Champions” by the Traverse City Convention & Visitors Bureau last November in recognition of their help in bringing meetings, conventions and other events to Traverse City. Arends had helped persuade the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association to hold its fall 2008 convention at Shanty Creek Resorts.

Arends was also recognized by the Michigan Municipal Treasurers Association (MMTA) as recipient of the prestigious Professional Recognition in Municipal

Excellence (PRIME) Award for 2006. He has been a member of the MMTA since 1992 and served on their board of directors from 1997 – 2006.

A 1984 graduate of Ferris State University with a B.A. degree in Accountancy, Arends and his family have lived in the Traverse City area for nearly 25 years.
