West Side Transmission Routes Subject of L&P Public Meetings
(Traverse City, Michigan) — Traverse City Light & Power will be hosting public meetings on September 30 and October 2 to review and seek feedback on three different west side transmission route scenarios which were originally presented to the Light and Power Board of Directors on August 12 by the L&P staff. Considerations for each of the scenarios and various options will be discussed.
Identical meetings will be held Tuesday, September 30 and again on Thursday, October 2 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the City Commission Chambers on the second floor of the Boardman Governmental Center (400 Boardman Avenue) to provide interested parties the opportunity to present their opinions. Both meetings will be televised on cable TV channel 99.
“It’s important for people to understand the trade-offs and costs associated with each of the transmission line scenarios,” said Linda Johnson, chairperson of the Light and Power Board of Directors. “Some of the proposed routes run through the Meadowlands or along M-72, passing through portions of Elmwood Township of Leelanau County, so we want to hear from people in those vicinities, too.”
According to Ed Rice, Executive Director of L&P, no board decision will be requested at these public meetings. The meetings are intended to obtain public input as part of the decision-making process. The Light and Power staff will present their recommendations to the L&P board at the regular scheduled meeting on October 14th
A PowerPoint slide presentation showing the route scenarios and the options
associated with each is already posted on the L&P website: www.tclp.org. Visitors can
click on “Transmission Line Upgrades” on the L&P website home page to see links to the
“Transmission Options” and the “Matrix.”
