L&P Presenting Over $1.5 Million to Traverse City Oct. 6
(Traverse City, Michigan) — As part of its Public Power Week celebration, Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) will be presenting its annual revenue contribution to the City Commission of Traverse City during the Commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting beginning at 7 p.m. tonight at the Governmental Center (400 Boardman Ave., 2nd floor). Linda Johnson, chairperson of the L&P Board of Directors will present a representative check worth over $1.5 million.
“This contribution from Light and Power revenue helps decrease the tax burden on citizens by providing additional funds to the city,” said Johnson. “It is another distinct advantage of not-for-profit public power compared to investor-owned or private utilities. Financially supporting the City of Traverse City is part of our mission.”
According to Johnson, since 2000, the amount of revenue contributed by L&P to the City has totaled nearly 11 million dollars.
L&P is celebrating Public Power Week October 5-11, along with more than 2,000 other electric utilities whose communities provide over 44 million Americans electric services on a locally-owned, not-for-profit basis.
Public Power Week is celebrated in conjunction with the American Public Power
Association in Washington, D.C., the service organization for community- and state-
owned electric utilities.
Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) is a community-owned, community-focused municipal utility that offers reliable energy at low rates in the region to over 10,000 customers in Traverse City, and parts of Blair, East Bay, Elmwood, Garfield, Peninsula and Paradise townships.
