L&P Tree Trimming Begins Mid-December

(Traverse City, Michigan) - Traverse City Light & Power will commence its annual maintenance tree trimming program in selected parts of the city beginning mid-December in order to avoid potential power interruption problems when tree limbs come in contact with electrical lines. According to Jim Cooper, L&P Key Accounts and Marketing Manager, trees will be trimmed along:

  • Cass Road north into the Central Neighborhood of Traverse City
  • Central Neighborhood area
  • Eighth Street from the Barlow Street electrical substation to East Bay Boulevard
  • West Front Street to Munson Medical Center area

Residents can expect to see bucket trucks, ropes and rigging in the areas where tree trimming is taking place. The project is expected to take about three months to complete. Trees, Inc. of Sand Lake was awarded the contract at the last regularly scheduled L&P Board meeting (Nov. 11) to perform the work.

According to Ed Rice, Executive Director of L&P, the utility will be diligent in notifying each resident who may be affected by the tree trimming in advance of

crews starting work. Rice said L&P trims different sections of its service area each year.

While residents could witness trees being trimmed in parts of the city other than those designated for trimming, these are usually in response to customer requests and not related to the formal trimming schedule. Established arboreal trimming practices and Traverse City mandated standards will be followed. More information about the selected routes can be found on Light and Power's web site, www.tclp.org.

Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) is a community-owned, community-focused municipal utility that offers reliable energy at low rates in the region to over 10,000 customers in Traverse City, and parts of Blair, East Bay, Elmwood, Garfield, Peninsula and Paradise townships.
