L&P Discounting CFL Bulbs for Customers!
(Traverse City, Michigan) — Traverse City Light & Power (L&P) is encouraging its customers to switch from traditional incandescent light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Bulbs (CFLs) – and L&P is helping pay for it! In their current billing insert, L&P customers will see four $2-off coupons good toward the purchase of CFL bulbs. The coupons can be redeemed at local participating retailers in the L&P service area.
L&P says CFL bulbs will save energy, lower customer electric bills and help preserve the environment.
Electric lighting industry sources claim CFLs use about 75 percent less energy than standard incandescent bulbs and last up to 10 times longer. CFLs are also said to save about $30 or more in electricity costs over each bulb's lifetime, helping reduce electric bills.
Switching to CFLs helps the environment, too. Since most electric power is still generated from coal burning power plants that release carbon dioxide into the air, using CFLs requires less electric power and results in reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
“This is one of the ways we can help our customers and reduce electric power consumption,” said Linda Johnson, Chairperson of the Light & Power
Board of Directors. “We hope our ratepayers take advantage of these coupons, save energy and begin reducing their own electric bill.”
According to L&P Certified Energy Manager, Jim Cooper, CFLs now come in all shapes, sizes and shades of white light (warm to bright white). “Some CFLs work with dimmers while others are specially made for recessed or enclosed fixtures,” said Cooper. “Just check the CFL packaging carefully to be sure you match your fixtures and the type of illumination you want.”
Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) is a community-owned, community-focused municipal utility that offers energy at low rates in the region to over 10,000 customers in Traverse City, and parts of Blair, East Bay, Elmwood, Garfield, Peninsula and Paradise townships.
