April 7 Forum Discussing Effects of Renewable Generation Choices

(Traverse City, Michigan) — On Wednesday, April 7, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Hagerty Center (715 East Front St.), Traverse City Light & Power (L&P) will review ideas and concerns expressed at two previous public forums held in February to help the utility choose appropriate renewable power generation sources for the future.

“At this forum, people will see how their ideas impact future electric rates, the environment, jobs, economic growth, reliability and other measures,” said Ed Rice, executive director of Traverse City Light & Power. According to Rice, the utility subjected ideas and concerns, raised by the public at the February forums, to rigorous expert analysis and will share those findings.

L&P proposes to generate 30% of its electricity with local renewable power sources by 2020. According to L&P, this far-reaching goal requires considering technologies such as wind, solar, landfill gas and biomass. Rice said forum attendees will once again be given time to respond to the question, “What should L&P do to achieve its

30 by 20 goal?”

In addition, L&P will give away compact fluorescent light bulbs to attendees, as long as supplies last.

Traverse City Light & Power (www.tclp.org) is a community-owned, community-focused municipal utility that offers energy at low rates in the region to over 11,000 customers in Traverse City, and parts of Blair, East Bay, Elmwood, Garfield, Peninsula and Paradise townships.
