These plans were drafted to comply with the State of Michigan's Clean, Renewable, and Efficient Energy Act that was signed into law by the Governor on October 6, 2008 and subsequently enacted by the Michigan Public Service Commission as Public Act 295.
This legislation requires electric utilities to develop and implement plans to:
Obtain at least 10% of the electricity furnished to retail customers from renewable energy resources by 2015, and
Reduce consumption of electricity by instituting energy optimization measures such as providing incentives to customers to use more energy efficient lighting and equipment, and by instituting other energy conservation measures.
