Understanding Grid Alerts & Reliability
Current Grid Status
There is no active grid event or rolling outage event at this time. For real-time regional grid conditions, visit MISO’s system status page.
What is MISO?
The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) manages the regional electric grid across 15 U.S. states and Manitoba, Canada. MISO monitors electricity demand and available generation around the clock to help keep power flowing safely and reliably.
When demand approaches available supply, MISO may ask utilities like TCLP to conserve energy or temporarily reduce electrical demand.
Important: Grid alerts are regional events—not local equipment failures.
Helping Keep the Power Reliable
When regional electricity demand is unusually high, the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) may ask utilities across the region, including Traverse City Light & Power (TCLP), to help reduce demand and protect the reliability of the electric grid.
Our goal is simple: keep you informed, reduce the chance of outages whenever possible, and restore normal operations as quickly as we can.
Understanding Grid Alert Levels

How will TCLP communicate with our community about a grid event?
When MISO issues a regional grid alert, TCLP will keep you informed every step of the way. Visit our website or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates, conservation requests, and important information as conditions change.
Grid Status FAQ
Because MISO has identified a regional grid condition where reducing demand helps protect electric reliability for everyone connected to the regional grid.
No. Regional grid alerts are different from outages caused by storms, equipment failures, or accidents.
Not necessarily. Most conservation requests and many load reduction events are managed without customer outages.
Controlled outages help prevent larger, widespread, and uncontrolled outages across the regional grid.
If controlled outages become necessary, TCLP will provide estimated durations and restoration updates as information becomes available.
