How to Use a TC EV Network Charger

TC EV Network chargers currently operate through ChargePoint or RED E*. You can start a charging session without downloading an app or creating an account.

  1. Find a charger using the map or location list.
  2. Check the charger’s signage to identify the charging network and available payment options.
  3. Start your session using one of the available methods:
    • At a RED E charger, scan the QR code.
    • At a ChargePoint charger, use the tap-to-pay option.
    • If preferred, use the appropriate ChargePoint or RED E mobile app.
  4. Follow the instructions displayed on the charger.
  5. When charging is complete, move your vehicle promptly to avoid an idle fee and make the charger available to another driver.

EV Charging Options

Level 2 Charging

Level 2 chargers are a good option when parking for an hour or longer. They typically add approximately 15–35 miles of range per hour.

DC Fast Charging

DC fast chargers are designed for shorter charging stops and can add up to 10 miles of range per minute.

Actual charging speeds vary based on the vehicle, charger capacity, battery charge level, temperature and other conditions.

Idle Fees

Idle fees apply when a vehicle remains connected after charging is complete:

  • Level 2 chargers: $0.04 per minute
  • DC fast chargers: $0.12 per minute

* Listed rates reflect TCLP’s base EV charging rates. Additional network-provider fees may apply, including a 12% ChargePoint fee or a $0.05-per-kWh RED E fee. Review the total price displayed by the charger or charging network before beginning your session.

Where can I charge my EV in Traverse City?

Do I need the ChargePoint or RED E app in order to charge?

No. You can start a charging session without downloading an app or creating an account.

At RED E chargers, scan the QR code displayed on the charger. At ChargePoint chargers, use the tap-to-pay option. You may also use the ChargePoint or RED E mobile app if you prefer.

What is the difference between Level 2 and DC fast charging?

The cost depends on the charger type, season, time of day and amount of electricity used. Network-provider fees may also apply. Review the rate table above and the total price displayed by the charger or charging network before starting your session.

When are on-peak and off-peak hours?

During the summer rate period, June through September, on-peak hours are 1–5 p.m.

During the winter rate period, October through May, on-peak hours are 8 a.m.–8 p.m.

All remaining hours are off-peak.

Does an idle fee apply after charging is complete?

Yes. An idle fee applies when a vehicle remains connected after charging is complete:

  • Level 2 chargers: $0.04 per minute
  • DC fast chargers: $0.12 per minute

Please move your vehicle promptly so the charger is available to another driver.

Can I check whether a charger is available?

Yes. Real-time availability may be displayed through the ChargePoint or RED E app, depending on the station. Availability may also be available through third-party EV charging resources such as PlugShare.

What connector types are available?

TCLP’s DC fast-charging locations offer different connector types:

  • Marina Drive and Hall Street: CCS1 and CHAdeMO
  • Fishman Cove: CCS1 and NACS

Review your vehicle’s specifications to determine which connector it can use.

How do I report a charger that is not working?

Report the problem to the charging network identified on the station – ChargePoint or RED E – or call TCLP Customer Service at 231-922-4940.

Does TCLP offer an incentive for home EV chargers?

Yes. Eligible TCLP customers may qualify for a $300 incentive toward the installation of a qualifying home EV charger.
